Zhewitra 60 mg contains vardenafil, a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Vardenafil, like other phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, primarily targets the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5, which regulates the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the smooth muscle cells of the corpus cavernosum in the penis. However, unlike medications used to treat premature ejaculation (which often target neurotransmitters involved in ejaculation control), Zhewitra 60mg does not directly target specific neurotransmitters in the brain. Instead, vardenafil acts locally in the penis to enhance the effects of nitric oxide (NO), a signaling molecule that mediates smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation. When sexual stimulation occurs, NO is released from nerve endings and endothelial cells, leading to increased production of cGMP in smooth muscle cells. This, in turn, relaxes the smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum, allowing for increased blood flow into the penis and resulting in an erection. By inhibiting PDE5, vardenafil prolongs the action of cGMP, thereby enhancing the erectile response to sexual stimulation. This mechanism of action is localized to the penile tissues and does not directly involve neurotransmitters in the brain. It's important to note that while vardenafil primarily targets PDE5 in the penis, it may have some systemic effects, including mild effects on blood pressure and cardiovascular function.
